Kathleen Sayce, M.S.
Sayce is a botanist and scientific illustrator with broad knowledge of geology. Through years of study of historic physical and maritime maps, she can identify and describe terrain and shorelines of centuries past. Her extensive knowledge allows her to identify the exact location of scenes painted or photographed decades, even centuries, before. Sayce has taught botany and stewardship classes, done ecological and wetland surveys, botanical site listing and endangered species monitoring. She worked as a Science Program Director for the Willapa Alliance, and as Assistant Vice President Science Officer for ShoreBank Pacific, the first bank in the United States to focus on sustainability. She has written numerous articles and given many presentations about botany, local geology, and sustainability. In addition Sayce helped start and was on the boards of the Water Music Festival (http://watermusicfestival.com/ ), Confluence Project (http://www.confluenceproject.org/ ), a multi-site bi-state public art project featuring artworks designed by Maya Lin, and Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership (http://www.lcrep.org/ ) , a research and education organization to promote the health of the Columbia River from the Gorge west to the Pacific Ocean.
